2nd Balkan Congress on Obesity

The 2nd Balkan Congress on Obesity took place from 19 to 21 May, 2006 in the sunny resort of the Black sea coast - Albena, Bulgaria. The congress was hosted by BASORD (Bulgarian Association for the Study of Obesity and Related Diseases) and it was supported by the Balkan Network for the Study of Obesity (BalNeSO) and many local and international institutions and companies. During the three congress days more than 200 participants from 18 countries enjoyed the interesting scientific programme, the social activities and the nice weather of the Bulgarian Black sea coast.
Special attention was drawn on the role of the Balkan diet - the healthy Balkan food for treatment and prevention of obesity, which is alternative of the Mediterranean diet. The key lectures presented by the invited speakers (Prof. A. Astrup, Prof. S. Rossner, Prof. V. Hainer) revealed new approaches in the pathogenesis, epidemiology, clinics and treatment of obesity and related diseases.
During the congress, a SCOPE course with an accent on the "Challenges and Methods for Coping with Adult Obesity Management in Balkans" took place.
The Organising Committee would like to thank all the participants and sponsors for their active support to the effort of making this scientific forum real success for our country.
